HILTON FEAST WEEK
The Feast week committee are hoping your support will continue for our next few fundraising events, we had a great turnout for the Easter Egg Hunt in March. Many thanks to Emma Payne who helped the committee run this event, enjoyed by many children of all ages with their families on a windy spring day!
We hope to go ahead with all these events below but maybe subject to change, so please check the website.
4 th June 2016- Race night with Ronnie compering the horse racing - 7.30 pm. 22nd July 2016 – Hilton Summer Ball – Black tie. Tickets -£55 per person- 7.00pm. 24 th July 2016– Feast week starts with Produce show and parade of floats day.
The theme for Feast week 2016 will be International Festivals and Celebrations, as we have the Olympics in Rio this year.
Lastly, I’d like to say thank-you to all of the Feast Week committee who have worked hard, to pull all this together for our community. A big thank-you to everyone who have attended our events over the last year too. We are currently working on the programme for Feast week which will be delivered to every household in the village, so please contact Gill Gill if you would like to place an advert in the programme.

Hilton Produce Show Sunday 23 July 2017 at 2pm Welcome to the Schedule for the 2017 Hilton Produce Show. As in previous years, the classes range from Preserves to Baking, Vegetables to Flower Arranging not forgetting the Children’s classes which are open to all ages. Look out also for the special Baking Challenge Class for men only. So have a look, get ready, and see what takes your fancy by making an entry to the show – and it’s fun too! Whilst trophies and rosettes are awarded to villagers (in line with Feast Week policy) other participants are always welcome and can win Highly Commended rosettes. Entry forms can be downloaded from the Hilton Village Community website (www.hilton-village.com). They are also printed in Spectrum, in the Feast Week Programme. All entries should be on the 2017 entry form with the deadline for entries being MIDNIGHT TUESDAY 18 July 2017. Completed forms should be submitted either to Claire Sarkies, Wistow, The Green or Lynn Amos, 10 Westbrook. Alternatively you can complete your entry online at https://hiltonproduce17.eventbrite.co.uk/ . The marquee will be open on the Sunday morning at 8.15am to receive exhibits and will be closed at 10.15am prompt for judging. ![]() AN URGENT MESSAGE FROM THE FEAST WEEK COMMITTEE - YOUR 2018 FEAST WEEK IS AT RISK!
Due to low ticket sales the first full fundraiser of the year the Burns Night Supper was cancelled. This, along with the other events held in the run up to Feast Week forms a vital part of the funding and without this, and an army of willing volunteers, it is just not viable to run the event.
This year, the size of the Feast Week Committee is also vastly reduced and with our current number, we just do not have the capacity to run the usual full week programme of events. As a result, we are proposing to hold a “Feast Week Light” in 2018.
Hopefully it will still feature your usual favourites, including the Produce Show, Parade of Floats, Friday and Saturday night entertainment, the Village Sport Day and Village Tea but without more funding and volunteers we unable to have an open bar on the weekday evenings, the full week art show and full programme of children’s weekday activities.

Even the reduced Feast Week programme will require a lot of hard work, funding and dedication to pull off and so we will need the village to rally round, support our fundraising events and pitch in.
The next event is the Quiz Night on Saturday 21 April 2018 so get your teams together and buy your tickets now via the website or by contacting the Committee.
We are also looking for willing volunteers to either join the Committee fully or offer their support to help organise, set up and run Feast Week. Even if you can only spare a few hours in the run up to or during Feast Week, your help would still be greatly appreciated. Equally, we will have the marquee on the Green all week so if you want to run a daytime/evening event, please contact the Committee to get involved.
The Hilton 200 Club is running and open for entries. Full details/entry forms can be found on our website. Jenny Hartwell, who has kindly been running since last year, is leaving the village and so we are also looking for someone to take on this responsibility. If you can spare an hour or so each month to administer the 200 Club please get in touch.
Hilton is very lucky to have such a wonderful event, which brings together the whole community for a week of free fun. We are sure that many of you would agree that you don’t want this tradition, which has been running for over 40 years, to end. However, if we don’t have the full support of this village there is a real possibility that there won’t be a Feast Week in 2018.

All about Feast Week
What is Feast Week? The origins of Feast Week date back to the Middle Ages, when villagers would celebrate the feast of Mary Magdalene (after whom our beautiful church in Hilton is named), by bringing the community together and reflecting on helping each other. The modern version of this is a week of events for the whole village, centred around a marquee on the village green.
Feast Week takes place during the last week of July every year. A typical Feast Week includes a float parade around the village, a produce show, songs of praise in the marquee, several evenings of cricket on the green, tasty nightly barbecues, children’s craft activities, discos, a children’s magician, a talent night, Irish bingo, bands, sports day, an art show and a big afternoon tea to polish it all off! It brings the community together in a relaxed, convivial way, providing events for old and young alike. It’s great fun and amazingly, all of it is free!

The Feast Week committee is a group of volunteers who live in the village and enjoy Feast Week so much they want to keep it going for everyone. In order to keep the week in the summer free of charge, we organise fundraising events throughout the year. By supporting these events you help make sure that Feast Week itself can remain free of charge.
