A review of the 2020 rainfall record for Hilton
Gillian Sheail, our local Rainfall Observer for the Meteorological Office and Environment Agency, measures the daily rainfall in Hilton. 2020 was a year of both dry and wet spells, culminating in the floods of Christmas Eve and she has written an excellent article which would have been in Spectrum if it was being published. Please find a copy HERE The ongoing measurements for 45 years provide a useful record of the village’s climate. Monthly and annual rainfall totals for the years from 1976 to 2020 are now available on the village digital archive, copy HERE Proposed Building on Hilton Road
I would like to make readers aware that there is a planning application in for building 7 houses on the former Fields View Cattery and Kennels on Hilton Road. If you should wish to view the application and comment please do so ASAP. More information can be found HERE using ref (20/01966/FUL) Hilton Traffic Petition You will have seen that the Parish Council have posted a flyer through your letter box regarding a petition (copy HERE) and we would be most grateful if you could support this important campaign to get a 24 hour HGV ban through the village. Please sign and return (as per the instructions) or email the Parish Clerk (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ) with your names (remember every person in your household can sign) and address please.
Unfortunately there were a couple of important errors in the flyer. According the CCC report (copy can be found HERE) that references the traffic survey that took place on the B1040 in July 2019 on page 15, there were in fact 60,935 vehicles that travelled through the village per week of which 7,805 were HGVs (not 8705 vehicles and 1115 HGVs as per the flyer), so you can really appreciate the problem. Experimental Traffic Regulation Order request - Final Outcome
Thank you to everyone who wrote to the CCC councillors in support of this request
