Hilton Community Garden
New Community Garden in Hilton
As we come out of all the covid restrictions, a group of us in Hilton have been looking at ways we can
GROW community
GROW feelings of well being by being outside in the fresh air
GROW a greener environment And of course
GROW flowers, vegetables and fruit for everyone to enjoy.
Mindful of the importance of good physical and mental health, especially in the current climate we are keen to find ways to support these crucial issues especially for the more vulnerable in our community.
Our vision is to create, as our name suggests, a community garden for all residents of Hilton to enjoy. We hope to create a multi-faceted area comprising sections for growing produce to share, encouraging wildlife and enjoying relaxation and quiet contemplation and it is our hope we can bring together people of all ages to share expertise, enjoy working together in the fresh air, being able to relax in tranquil surroundings and, in the case of our younger members, to offer valuable hands on learning experiences.
We have been working hard to get this project off to a good practical start and have already, through the generosity of Dr and Mrs Randall of Monach Farm, acquired the use of an area of land adjacent to the Wilderness on which to site our garden.
We have applied for some grants to get money to support this project, and are very hopeful that some will be forthcoming. We will particularly need fencing to protect the land from rabbits and Muntjac deer. We will be inviting all Hilton residents to be part of this project, so if you would like to dig, plant, prune or pick do get in touch with Heather at 23heatherc@gmail.com or Sandy at sandy.monk@btinternet.com |
