Summer News 2013 from Hilton Village Hall

Our male users will have been pleasantly surprised by the complete refurbishment of the ‘Gents’.  This work was, again, carried out by Bathroom Barn who did the ‘Ladies’, and we were pleased that it was all ready in time for Feast Week.

Open Gardens

How wonderful to have something arranged in the Village and KNOW that the weather would be kind!  The afternoon saw many visitors to this event, over 15 neighbours were very kind in opening up their gardens, thanks to you – we really couldn’t have done it without you.  There were delicious cakes and teas served in the Village Hall, a very busy and attractive stall run by the Produce Show Committee and friends, a superb array of raffle prizes, the local artist group, The Carnelians, put on a wonderful display and, to cap it all, Jan and Bruce Whatley opened their exciting garden to give train rides for all the children.  The whole afternoon was a well-supported and happy event.  From the Gardens element of the afternoon a donation of £587 was made to the local Macmillan Cancer Care, the teas raised £584 towards Hall funds and £100 was donated to the Produce Show towards the purchase of rosettes/prizes.

Hog Roast

We must have been mad! But the next weekend the Committee organised a sell-out hog roast social evening.  Over 100 guests tucked into succulent ‘hog’, along with salad followed by the usual sumptuous selection of home-made desserts, all the while being serenaded by ‘Parisian Swing’ musicians and singer.  Such a successful evening, that we had difficulty in emptying the hall in order to clear away - still, that is what it is all about.  We were very pleased to raise a further £642 towards the upkeep of this important building.  THANK YOU TO ALL WHO SUPPORTED OUR EFFORTS.
