Royal British Legion in Hilton

This year Remembrance Sunday Services will be held nationally and in Hilton on November 9th and the sale of poppies is permitted during the 2 weeks from Saturday October 25th until Saturday November 8th. As ever we shall be contacting our fantastic supporters who collect at our doors and we will welcome anyone from 16 and above who would also like to volunteer. Under 16s are very  welcome to accompany an adult and carry the tray of poppies but not the collecting tray . Clearly the more collectors we have the less time it would take you and we try whenever possible to give you a part of the village close to your home and where you are known.

Secondly, the St Ives branch which also covers surrounding villages has set up an immense district-wide project called Every Man Remembered in honour of the Fallen of the Great War that began 100 years ago.
Members have listed the names on every village Memorial in its district and will attend there on or near the anniversary of the serviceman's death to hold a short ceremony in his honour to includeThe Last Post. Where two or more such anniversaries are close they will be held together.
Consequently , the first such ceremony  here in Hilton will be held for Lenham Yates on September 22nd at approximately 11 a.m. at the Lychgate and anyone is welcome there to join in thinking of his sacrifice .
So from 2014 to 2018 and even into 2019 we could have up to 12 such ceremonies to include Sidney Jones in our War Grave and it will be wonderful if some of us are able to join in remembering our boys.
Nearer each time we will place reminders in Spectrum,on the notice boards, also hopefully in our village website and there is always word of mouth !

As always - thank you everyone.
